The Manitoba Institute of Registered Social Workers (MIRSW) is the provincial body that regulates the profession of Social Work in Manitoba. MIRSW receives its authority from the Manitoba Institute of Registered Social Workers Incorporation Act (1966, 1985). Formerly, the organization was structured through two inter-related organizations, the Manitoba Association of Social Workers (MASW) and the Manitoba Institute of Registered Social Workers (MIRSW).
The Manitoba Institute of Registered Social Workers is responsible for the registration of Social Workers in the province and protects the public interest through use of a recognized Code of Ethics and provincial Standards of Practice. MIRSW requires Registered Social Workers to maintain current practice knowledge through on going professional education. MIRSW also maintains a disciplinary function to investigate public complaints.
